Government's 30 million euro fuel subsidy: Taksiliitto wants taxis included, targeting to be decided later

On 15 October 2026 the government announced a package that includes a 30 million euro fuel subsidy for entrepreneurs in the transport and agriculture and forestry sectors. The more precise targeting of the subsidy will be decided in further preparation, so the position of taxis is still open.
What the government announced
According to Kaleva and STT, the government's package is worth 60 million euros, of which 30 million euros is used for a fuel subsidy for the transport and agricultural sectors. In addition, 20 million euros is used to lower the base vehicle tax. The means of the fuel subsidy will become clearer in further preparation, and for now it is uncertain what forms of support can be used next year within EU regulation. Minister of the Environment and Climate Sari Multala admitted at the press conference that the measures have a very small effect at the petrol pump.
Taksiliitto's demand
Taksiliitto (the Finnish taxi federation) has demanded a temporary fuel subsidy for professional transport and now expects the support to also target taxi transport. The federation's acting managing director Johanna Rautio says in a press release that taxi companies must be included in the subsidy and that the subsidy must be made available quickly. The federation's chair Tuomo Heino points out that in the taxi sector over 60 percent are sole traders. These are the federation's views, not government decisions.
Why the federation demands support
The LiikenneSuomi group, which includes SKAL, the Bus and Coach Association (Linja-autoliitto) and Taksiliitto's member associations, said on 9 September 2026 that the price of diesel has risen by more than 50 cents a litre in about half a year and that the price per litre sometimes exceeds 2.50 euros. The figures are the group's own.
Taksiliitto already pointed out in a statement given on 11 August 2026 that a draft on the refund of tax on professional diesel would leave taxi transport outside. According to the draft, the refund would be available for carrying passengers in an M2 or M3 class bus and for carrying goods in a vehicle or combination of at least 7.5 tonnes.
