Official fees: exam and licence
According to the Ajovarma price list, the taxi driver licence application costs €57.00 and the taxi driver exam €138.00. The oral taxi driver exam on health grounds also costs €138.00. If you cancel the exam, the cancellation fee is 50 percent of the price. If you must take the exam again, you pay for the exam again. The application is filled in and paid at a service point of Traficom's service provider, and in 2026 that is Ajovarma. The price list page has no date, and Ajovarma says official prices follow the valid ministry decree. Check the amount at the service point before your visit.
Price of the training
The law requires at least 21 hours of training before the exam. Each provider sets its own price for the training, so there is no single price like in the official price list. When you compare courses, check what is included in the price:
- The Traficom registration fee is 21 euros. Some providers include it in their price, and some add it separately. Ask before you sign up.
- Materials and recordings are included in the price at some providers.
- The delivery method (remote or in person) varies, and it can affect travel costs.
Content and requirements of the training: A 21-hour training course is required for the first taxi driver licence.

Medical certificate
The application must include a medical certificate on the group 2 driving health requirements, no more than six months old. You do not need the certificate if you have delivered it in connection with another matter during the previous six months. Traficom and Ajovarma do not announce the price of the certificate, because it is issued by a doctor or a health care provider. The price varies by provider, so ask for it in advance.
What about renewal?
Renewal requires a 7-hour supplementary training when you renew the licence between 1 November 2026 and 31 August 2034. You can find the renewal steps at ajoluvanuusiminen.fi (in Finnish) and the whole path in the article Taxi driver licence step by step.
