What data we process

The site has no forms through which we would collect personal data. If you send us an email, we use your message and the sender's address only to reply. Statistics are made only with your consent, see Cookies and analytics. Page openings are also counted without identifiers, see Counting visits.

A newsletter subscription will be opened later. Until then, the site is only for reading the news.

Counting visits

We count how many times pages are opened. The counting does not use cookies or identifiers. When you open a page, your browser sends the address of the page, the date and the name of the site you came from (for example google.com) to Google's Firestore service (server in Finland). The service increases the daily number for that page by one. We do not store your IP address or anything else that could identify you, so the numbers cannot be linked to you. The only exception is a setting for the administrator, which lets the administrator leave their own visits uncounted.

Cookies and analytics

When you open a page, we show a choice where you can accept statistics or choose only the necessary. Both options are equally easy to choose. Before you choose, no identifier is stored in your browser and no Google analytics is loaded. Page openings are still counted without identifiers, as described under Counting visits.

Necessary

Your choice is stored in your browser's localStorage (key tv_suostumus), so that we do not ask on every page. This storage is necessary to remember the choice, and it does not need consent. The choice is asked again after 12 months.

Google Analytics 4

If you accept statistics, we load Google's analytics script (gtag.js, address googletagmanager.com). It sets cookies in your browser (those starting with _ga and _ga_) and sends Google data about your page views, your browser, your device and your estimated location. The recipient is Google Ireland Limited, and the data may be transferred to Google LLC in the United States using the transfer mechanisms Google applies. We use Google Analytics only for statistics on the number of visitors and the use of the content. Ad personalisation and ad storage are not used. Analytics data is kept in Google Analytics for 14 months. Before you accept, nothing is loaded from Google.

Tracking of returning visitors

If you accept statistics, we store a random identifier in your browser's localStorage (key tv_kavija). The identifier does not show your name, email address or IP address. When you leave the page, we store one row in Google's Firestore service (server in Finland): the name of the site, the day, the path of the page, the device type (mobile, tablet or computer), the identifier, whether you are a new or a returning visitor, the number of your visit and how many seconds the page was visible. With this we see whether visitors return to the site and which pages are read. We do not store your IP address or exact browser identification. The rows are deleted after 14 months.

Legal basis and withdrawing consent

Statistics are based on your consent (section 205 of the Finnish Act on Electronic Communications Services and Article 6(1)(a) of the EU General Data Protection Regulation). You can change or withdraw your choice at any time from the Cookie settings link in the footer or from the link above. When you choose only the necessary, we remove the identifier and the Google Analytics cookies from your browser and we do not store new rows. Rows that are already stored can no longer be linked to you. You can also delete cookies and the stored data of the site in your browser settings. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing done before the withdrawal.

Server

The site is delivered from the Firebase Hosting service (Google). The server processes technical connection data, such as the IP address and browser data, so that the page can be delivered and protected against misuse.

Changes

We update this notice before we introduce a form where you can leave your contact details. The notice will then say what data is collected, why, how long it is kept and how you can withdraw.
